You will positively influence the organization and build a foundation for employees, leaders and stakeholders. You will strategically partner with client groups to help drive initiatives such as organizational effectiveness, employee and labor relations, performance management, benefits and pension, learning and development, rewards and recognition, employee wellness and strategic workforce planning.

o Lead the HR Team in advising and guiding all parts of the business on policy development, employee involvement, recruitment, promotions, transfers, performance management, and dispute resolution
o Collaborate with Director, Human Resources to design, implement and monitor the Human Resources strategic plan
o Provide coaching, mentorship, development to the HR team with a vested interest in their success and growth.
o Establish, analyze and develop programs on the basis of Human Resources key metrics and performance analytics
o Lead the development and maintenance of the HR Key Performance Metrics that support the accomplishment of the strategic plan
o Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resources federal and state requirements. Ensure the company meets all Department of Labor, ERISA, and other relevant compliance requirements
o Provide guidance and support for labor and employment related matters
o Oversee the development, interpretation, and application of the collective agreements, company policies and applicable legislation to facilitate early resolution of employee issues
o Take a lead role in collective bargaining and employee and labor relations meetings
o Develop and monitor the Human Resources annual budget that includes employee benefits, Human Resources services, employee recognition, benefits and wellness programs, recruitment, labor relations, and 401(k)
o Partner with the business on strategic execution of transformation activities that require significant reorganization, change management support, organization effectiveness or development
o Work with leadership levels on development plans in ensuring that talent and workforce planning are in a position of readiness
o Ensure Compensation, Benefits and Wellness programs meets ERISA and other regulatory compliance requirements
o Oversee talent acquisition including timeliness of recruitment; ensuring we are committed to hiring the caliber of employee that best meets the roles for today and future business needs
o Lead, develop and maintain performance evaluation and leadership programs, as well as the annual salary review and incentive process.
o Responsible for HR policy development, governance, review, interpretation, and enforcement
o Provides applicable coordination among HR team to produce HR data, analytics, dashboards and reporting to support Board of Director reporting
o Exemplify Safety and Environmental leadership
o Works in accordance with the documented environmental procedures, instructions, and specific responsibilities as defined in individual procedures and instructions. Reports problems or deviations associated with environmental issues and the Environmental Management System (EMS) to the Environmental Department
o Bachelor’s degree in Industrial/Labor Relations, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
o SPHR Certification preferred
o Minimum of seven (7) years of Strategic Human Resources and leadership experience required
o Well-versed in application of employment law, experience in benefits administration, including pension, 401(k) and the Affordable Care Act, FMLA, compensation programs, and other Human Resources recognition and engagement programs and processes
o Direct experience with collective bargaining and a unionized workforce required
o Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations preferred
o Position requires a valid Maine driver’s license

o Demonstrate understanding of business objectives and use a solution focused approach to effect continuous improvement and enable organizational performance

o Demonstrated ability to define problems, establish alternatives, and determine the optimal course of action in the context of broader business strategies and objectives
o Demonstrates learning agility and a curiosity that drives HR excellence and inspires others to demonstrate a similar mindset
o Strong verbal and written communication skills
o Able to enhance an existing corporate culture that fosters mentoring, transparency, inclusivity, accountability, integrity, and respect across all levels
