Position is responsible for supporting the organization’s accounting, tax, and payroll-related functions, with a primary focus on balance sheet reconciliations, client tax fund accounting, and compliance reporting. This role prepares and reconciles quarterly and year-end tax filings, researches and resolves discrepancies and tax notices, and compiles supporting documentation for the annual financial audit. Staff Accountant works closely with internal departments to ensure the accurate collection, reconciliation, and refunding of client funds while maintaining compliance with applicable tax laws and accounting standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and prepare supporting documentation for the year-end financial audit
Reconcile client tax funds collected and subsequently paid out, including balancing funds for new and terminating clients
Research, analyze, and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices and discrepancies
Prepare, process, and file quarterly and year-end tax returns, including payroll-related filings such as W-2s
Prepare and submit corrected and amended quarterly and annual tax returns as needed
Process tax payments and ensure timely and accurate remittance
Coordinate with the Accounting Administrator to reconcile bank accounts and accurately post transactions in QuickBooks
Work with the Database Administrator and other stakeholders to automate and improve reconciliation and reporting processes
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payroll and accounting systems, as well as changes in wage and tax laws
Research and resolve client, system, or process-related issues impacting accounting or tax reporting
Cross-train with other accounting and tax staff and serve as backup support as needed
Maintain client files and financial records in a confidential and secure manner
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients, agencies, and coworkers to promote a high-quality service image
Support and contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment
Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned

Requirements
Associates or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college

5 years accounting experience working with financial statements
Basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Proficient in QuickBooks
Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Excel
Knowledge of payroll software or ability to learn specific applications
Prior experience in a customer service environment
Excellent telephone, communication and interpersonal skills
Detail oriented, well organized; high degree of accuracy
Analytical and critical problem-solving skills

Professional in appearance and behavior
Ability to work beyond regular work hours when needed
