Full-time, Contract to Hire! This position fulfills the duties and responsibilities of the Central Intake Office including processing complaints against lawyers, judges, and GALs. In the role as Board Clerk, this position performs the administrative duties associated with managing fee arbitration and grievance cases, including docketing, scheduling, and hearing preparation. The Clerk also provides legal research, writing, and administrative support. In conjunction with the Executive Director, this position provides training to members of the Grievance and Fee Arbitration Commissions, and is responsible for the management of complex and highly confidential information.

Receives, screens, and dockets all new complaints, petitions for reinstatement, and claims for reimbursement from the LFCP.
Reviews complaints and dismisses those when appropriate or forwards the complaints to Bar Counsel or other appropriate agencies.
Schedules case reviews, pre-hearing conferences, hearings, and other proceedings before the Grievance and Fee Arbitration Commissions, and the GAL Review Board.
In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Clerk provides legal and administrative support and to Commission members. That support includes but is not limited to legal research, drafting correspondence, pre-hearing orders, findings of fact, decisions and orders.
Presents Continuing Legal Education programs with other Board staff.
Attests orders, Certificates of Good Standing, and other documents as required.
Communicates with attorneys, the public, Board staff, and the courts concerning Grievance and Fee Arbitration matters as well as GAL Review Board decisions.
Keeps apprised of pertinent Maine Bar Rules, Maine Rules of Professional Conduct, LFCP, and Rules for Guardians ad Litem (GALs).
Processes and provides disciplinary and Fee Arbitration decisions to appropriate groups and parties and publishes decisions to the Board’s website.
Provides courteous and professional assistance to complainants in lodging complaints. Obtains language or ADA compliant assistance when necessary.
In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Clerk provides notice of public discipline, suspension, disbarment, and reinstatement to general media outlets throughout Maine and other jurisdictions.
Archives decisions issued by the Grievance and Fee Arbitration Commissions and the Supreme Judicial Court.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
